Clayton
Pottery produces hand made ceramic stoneware and Raku style
vases. The company is located in River Falls Wisconsin.
The ceramic
mugs are kiln fired at 2500 degrees. This process produces a
piece that is dishwasher and microwave safe. All glazes are
lead free.
John Clayton,
potter, brings into existence most all of his Raku creations on his
pottery wheel while other items are hand created. All items
are bisque fired, glazed with Raku glazes and then fired in an
outdoor gas fired kiln to 1850 degrees. When the pieces reach
temperature they are removed with long handled tongs and placed in a
bed of wood shavings and newspaper where the pieces burst into
flames and are quickly covered and left to cool in a smoky carbon
atmosphere. When uncovered no two pieces will have a finish
that appears the same color. Seeing the finished pieces is the
joy of the entire process.
